Dorothy Banik, age 85, of Elm Mott, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, August 4, 2010 at Quality Care Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ near Gerald, with the Rev. Frances Sidenblad officiating. Burial will follow at Gerald Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Banik was born on August 6, 1924 in Otto, the daughter of Rudolph and Bertha (Plagens) Kunkel. She attended schools in the Otto area. On December 30, 1944, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ernest H. Banik in Waco. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2003. Dorothy was a homemaker and also enjoyed sewing and doing yard work. She worked as a seamstress for J. M. Woods Manufacturing and V. R. Fashions in Waco for many years until her retirement in 1985. Dorothy was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where she served on the Women's Guild as president for several years and participated in the exercise class. She was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 35 in Elk. Her parents and two sisters, Helen Dulock and Ruby Pavelka, also preceded her in death. Survivors include one sister, Grace Lander of Lacy Lakeview; a brother-in-law, Albert Banik of West; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kunkel of Elm Mott; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Steven Dulock, Donnie Pavelka, Randy Pavelka, Eddie Banik, Darrin Banik, and Joe Dunlap. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald or Gerald Cemetery.
