Dorothy Adkins

Dorothy Clark Adkins, age 89, of West, formerly of Dallas, passed away late Friday afternoon, January 4, 2013 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Jimmy Sansom officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery. Dorothy was born July 1, 1923 in West, the daughter of Frank and Mallie Montez Clark. She attended schools in West and graduated from West High School in 1940, where she participated in Band and was their first ever Drum Major. Dorothy worked as a service representative for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Dallas for over 23 years, until she retired in October of 1972. She was also the founder and owner of the Four Seasons Ballroom in Dallas for over 17 years, which featured Big Bands and Ballroom dancing. She returned to West to live with her sister, Montez. Dorothy is a member of the First United Methodist Church in West, where she was the first person baptized in the present church building in 1923. She was also a member of the Pioneer's Club and the Ballroom Operator's Association of America. She enjoyed dancing, going on cruises, and was a world traveler. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Chili Clark, whom she adored. Survivors include a daughter, Fredda Stout and husband Joe of Dallas; a treasured brother, James "Piggy" Clark and wife Christie; a devoted sister, Montez Clark; two grandson that were her pride and joy, Jack Stout and wife Emily, and Mark Stout and wife Dawn; four great-grandchildren, that were the light of her life, Logan, Maddie, Luke and Cole Stout; nephews, Jim Clark and John Clark; niece, Donna Reed; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Jack Stout, Mark Stout, Jim Clark, and Don Landrum. Memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association, First United Methodist Church of West, or the charity of your choice. Dorothy was blessed to have had many wonderful friends that showed so much kindness to her during her extended illness. The family would like to especially thank the Don Landrum Family, Bobbie Lee Luco, Gladys Blair and the West Volunteer Ambulance Association. The family would also like to sincerely thank the entire staff of West Rest Haven who provided compassionate care each day she was there and the staff of Aderhold Funeral Home.
