Doris Evelyn (Sterling) Mears, age 82, of Gholson, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 18, 2006 at Providence Health Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Pastor Darrell Price officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Mears was born December 26, 1923 in Waco, the daughter of Earl and Sylvia (Dent) Sterling. She attended school in Gholson before graduating from West High School. On August 9, 1942 Doris was united in marriage to John B. Mears in Gholson. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1993. They were instrumental in rebuilding the gym and keeping the Gholson School open. She was a loving mother who enjoyed family gatherings and loved playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also liked gardening, crocheting, and bowling. Her parents; a daughter, Margaret Ruth Mears; a sister, Sylvia Ann Cast; and a brother, William Paul Sterling; also preceded her in death. Survivors include seven daughters, Mary Evelyn Kelley and husband Darwin of Gholson, Jeanie Allred and husband Larry of Stephenville, Judy Wellborn and husband James of Iredell, Betty Torcoletti Graham and husband Tommy of Chalk Bluff, Linda Taylor and husband Terry of Gholson, Patsy Argabright and husband Jimmy of Flat, and Stacy McCartney and husband Allen "Bubba" of Gholson; a brother, Austin Earl Sterling of Waco; 13 grandsons, Darren Kelley, John B. Kelley, Richard Kelley, David Allred, Scott Allred, Jim Wellborn, Jesse Wellborn, Billy Masters, Stephen Torcoletti, Chris Taylor, Terry Taylor Jr., Billy Lanier, and Michael Trammell; 8 granddaughters, Kelly Eason, Melissa Whitt, Janet Goodwin, Stephanie Torcoletti, Stephanie Stevenson, Teresa Satterfield, Amanda Trammell, and Alysha McCartney; 20 great grandchildren; many step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are her grandsons. Memorials may be made to the Gholson Meals On Wheels Program.
