Dolores Ann Shieldes, age 74, of Waco, formerly of Abbott and West, passed away late Monday evening, November 25, 2013 at Wesley Woods Health Care Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Ronnie Sykora. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Dolores was born December 9, 1938 in West, the daughter of Jim and Helen (Holacka) Knapp. She attended St. Mary's School in West, Abbott School and was a 1957 graduate of West High School before attending 4-C Business College in Waco. She was united in marriage to George R. "Deacon Buddy" Shieldes on June 27, 1987 in Pleasanton. Dolores was a legal secretary for several law offices in Dallas, Reno, Nevada, and San Antonio. She also worked at the Law Offices of Steve Kazanas in West and Noley Bice and Derrel Luce, in Waco. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Assumption in West, and a former member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. Dolores loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dogs Britta and Fritz. She also enjoyed going through the deaconate program with her husband and helping him in his ministry. Dolores is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Deacon Buddy Shieldes of Waco, a son, Eric Hudson and wife Kelli of Hillsboro; stepsons, Robert Shieldes and Stephen Shieldes and wife Krista; stepdaughters, Ann Massey and husband Larry and Mandy Sorenson and husband Eric; a sister, Jackie McIntyre; grandchildren, Cailey, Clayton, Tyler, Katie, Mark, Elise, Trent, Brandon and wife Samantha, and Aaron; great grandchildren, Khloe, Kelcee, Annabelle, Jahanna, Eloise and Sawyer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Trent Starrett, Mike Grinell, Steve Soukup, Tony Stacha, Ray DiMilliano and Mike Knapp. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
