Dewayne Long, age 70, of Marlin, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 18, 2018 at his residence. Memorial Services will be held at 4pm Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Holiday Inn Waco Northwest in Bellmead. Dewayne was born May 15, 1948 in Monterey, Tennessee, the son of William and Cora (Madewell) Long. He was a 1966 graduate of Patterson Co-op High School in Dayton, Ohio. He was a mortgage loan officer for many years. Dewayne enjoyed golfing and playing Texas Hold'em. He loved spending time with his family. Dewayne lived and worked in many different places with his family in the mortgage business. Over the years he lived in Clearwater, FL; Prescott, AZ; Las Vegas, NV; Marlin and Waco. He "officially" retired from the mortgage business in 2008 but continued to work for the next several years with his son to open a bar & grill in Waco. Dewayne is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chuck Long; and sisters, Wanda Bookheimer and Joyce Swiney. Survivors include his son, Leslie Long and wife Rachel of West; a brother, Larry Bache and wife Kathy of Palm Harbor, FL; a sister, Sheila Rice and husband Jeff of Cookeville, TN; mother-in-law, Jane Young of Marlin and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Providence Foundation in Waco, TX.
