Demetra (Musgrave) Thompson, age 86, of West, passed away early Saturday afternoon, May 19, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Thompson was born July 10, 1925 in Dallas, the daughter of David Benjamin and Mary Edna (Luper) Musgrave. When she was two and a half years old, the family moved to a farm just outside of Mansfield. There, she attended school and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1942. She then received her Bachelor's Degree in 1946 from Baylor University. On June 9, 1949, she was united in marriage to George D. Thompson at the first Baptist Church in Hillsboro. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2006. After teaching and raising two boys, she received her Master's Degree in Counseling from Lamar University in Beaumont in 1972. Following her graduation, she worked for two years with the Education Service Center at Region 5 in Beaumont. When she and her husband moved to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, she worked as an elementary school counselor and as a Junior High Counselor at Los Fresnos for 11 years. In 1985, they retired to West and the Anchor T. Ranch near Aquilla. Many happy years were given to her to enjoy her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco where she was a member of her beloved Mixson Class. Survivors include two sons, George David Thompson and his wife Kay, of West and Jim Thompson and his wife Vickie, of Abbott; grandchildren, Ben Thompson and wife Macye, Daniel Thompson and wife Leslie, Whitney Boyer and husband Mike, Seth Thompson and wife Sarah, Aaron Thompson, and Garrett Thompson; great grandchildren, Brendon, Cameron, Dylan, Brady, Shailyn, Gabriel, Shelby, Bryer, Haylee, Dwyatt, Joseph, Thomas, Jake, and Grace Ann. Pallbearers are her grandchildren. Honorary attendants are Calvin Bell, Joe Wommack, Billy Davis Sr., Bobby Velesquez, Billy Kay Cox, Phyliss Strother, and "The Wild West Widows" which include Carol Sandifer, Marcheta Langford, Jane Ellison, Marjorie Felts, and Jonnie Payne. Memorials may be made to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church Mixson Sunday School Class. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dedra Carroll at Lighthouse Hospice in Hillsboro.
