Delmer Sullins, age 95, of Hillsboro, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 17, 2022 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Click here for LIVE STREAM of the service. Delmer was born August 8, 1926 in Penelope, the son of Buck and Millie (Parker) Sullins. He was a graduate of Birome High School. On August 14, 1948 he was united in marriage to Helon Johnson in West. Helon preceded him in death on February 1, 2014. Delmer proudly served his country in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of West and served as a Deacon for many years. He was also a former Deacon of the Vaughan Baptist Church. Delmer enjoyed deer hunting, traveling, working his land, tending to his cattle, giving back to the community and visiting each day with all the farmers known as his "Bone Head Club" friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He established the Chatt Water Company and was currently serving as President of the Water Board. Delmer also served on the Soil and Water Board, County Committee Member of the Farm Service Agency, and served many years on the Abbott School Board. Delmer is also preceded in death by his parents; his infant sister; brothers, Velton Sullins and wife Gwendlyn and Cecil Sullins and wife Virginia; and a son-in-law, Ronnie Pustejovsky. Survivors include his children, Linda Smith and husband Mike of Lake Jackson, Delma Sue Karlik and husband Frank of Abbott, Tim Sullins and wife Caroline of Hillsboro, and Kim Sullins and wife Janna of Tolar; a brother-in-law, Gary Johnson and his wife Ella; grandchildren, Brady Smith and Sheila, Blair White and husband Jared, Cory Pustejovsky and wife Anne, Amy Hajek, Erika Kunkel and husband Kurt, Tyler Sullins and wife Keeley, Taylor Sullins and fiance Daniel, Ashley Smith and husband Kelly, and Megan Gfeller and husband Cody; great grandchildren, Amelie Smith, Juliette Smith, Dean White, Camille Pustejovsky, Ava Pustejovsky, Luke Pustejovsky, Raiven Hajek and fiance Clint, Sloane Kunkel, Braylee Kirkpatrick, Paxtyn Smith, Tenli Gfeller, and Khord Gfeller; a great great granddaughter, Claire, who is on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active Pallbearers are Brady Smith, Cory Pustejovsky, Tyler Sullins, Larry Little, Cody Gfeller, Kelly Smith, Rick Sullins, and Lance Sullins. Honorary pallbearers are the grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of West Building Fund or County Line Young Life. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers of Visiting Angels and Amedisys Hospice for their love and care at the time of his needs.
