Debra Sue Smithey

Debra Sue (Bohannan) Smithey, age 52, of Waco, formerly of West, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer late Monday evening, June 7, 2010 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Debra was born March 9, 1958 in Waco, the daughter of James T. and Lillian (Hubik) Bohannan. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from West High School in 1976. She then attended McLennan Community College. Debra worked for National Lloyds Insurance Co. and was a Service Representative for AT&T, formerly Southwestern Bell, for 30 years until recently retiring. She enjoyed playing bingo, shopping, going out to eat, and spending time with her family, especially her grandson. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, the Southwestern Bell Pioneer Club, and an A.C.T.S. Sister. Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Barak of Waco; a son, Dillon Smithey of Waco; her parents, James and Lillian Bohannan of West; three brothers, Dennis Bohannan and wife Debbie and Darron Bohannan, all of West, and Dale Bohannan and wife Patti of Arlington; a sister, Deana Laubert and husband Richard "Ollie" of West; a grandson, James Pfleiderer; close friends, Kim Culverhouse and Anita Buzan, both of Waco; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active Pallbearers are her nephews, Brian Laubert, Alan Laubert, Colby Bohannan, Brandon Bohannan, Justin Bohannan, and Colton Bohannan. Honorary Pallbearers are Hayden Bohannan, Ty Bohannan, Becky Kudelka, Leann Laubert, Julie Bohannan, and Lindsey Bohannan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a scholarship fund for Dillon Smithey or to Providence Hospice.
