David Mercer

David Mercer, age 60, of Gholson, passed away late Monday evening, June 2, 2014 at his residence. Masonic Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Moore Cemetery near Chalk Bluff. Military Graveside Rites will follow conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home. David was born December 17, 1953 in Waco, the son of Aron and Dorothy (Klepper) Mercer. He graduated from Connally High School and Baylor University. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. On March 28, 1988 he was united in marriage to Linda Hixon in Waco. David was a benefits counselor at the Waco Veterans Administration for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Baylor Masonic Lodge #1235, where he served as a 32 Degree Mason, Karem Shrine Temple and American Legion #121 in Waco. David enjoyed playing his guitar, golfing, music and spending time with his grandchildren. David is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Sean Mercer; an infant daughter, Jennifer Mercer and a brother Ronnie Leidig. Survivors include his beloved wife of 26 years, Linda Mercer of Gholson; his mother-in-law, Margie Halpain of Waco; a son, Greg Andrews of Waco; a daughter, Michelle Davis of Waco; a brother, Greg Klepper and wife Brenda; a sister, Gloria Bittle and husband Lewis; 6 grandchildren, Sean Jr. Lauren, Aron, Kaylyn, Kristen and Landon; 2 great-grandchildren, Harley and Brentley; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to give a special thanks to Providence Hospice, especially Steve Bohannon for his love and compassion.
