David L. Hollingsworth

David L. "Shorty" Hollingsworth, age 66, of West, passed away late Saturday morning, February 21, 2015 at his mother's residence in West. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Shorty was born June 20, 1948 near Elm Mott, the son of Berry Lee and Lottie (McHenry) Hollingsworth. He attended school in Elm Mott and received his GED in 1968. On August 22, 1970, he was united in marriage to Donna (Thompson) Hollingsworth in Elm Mott. Donna preceded him in death on May 18, 1985. Shorty worked for Fleetwood Mobile Homes and several service stations in the Waco area. He was a member of the Heart of Texas Snake Handlers Association, West Jaycees and several other organizations. He enjoyed antique cars, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time on the river. Shorty is also preceded in death by his father, Berry L. Hollingsworth; a grandson, Rance Donnell; an infant sister, Irvena Hollingsworth; and a brother, Thomas D. Hollingsworth. Survivors include his mother, Lottie E. Hollingsworth of West; a daughter, Jay Lynn Gerik and husband, Sammy of West; a son, James Hollingsworth and wife DeAnn of West; a sister, Peggy Davidson of Lacy Lakeview; a brother, Albert Hollingsworth and wife, Annette; 9 grandchildren, Kelli and James Hollingsworth, Jarred and Jenna Maler, Colton and Shyanne Shilling, Myranda Barrintos and husband Rod and Hayden and Brady Gerik; a great-granddaughter on the way, Brynlee; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Ronald Davidson, Darren Davidson, Mike Hollingsworth, Josh White, Randy Davidson, Stacy Goodwin and Sammy Gerik. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Fire Department or West Baseball/Softball League.
