Darrell W. Campbell, age 65, of Ross, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, August 22, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Steven Ware officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Moore Cemetery near Chalk Bluff, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Darrell was born December 12, 1946 in Aransas Pass, the son of Thomas K. and Clauis (Keller) Campbell. He attended schools in Aransas Pass and graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1966. He served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he received numerous awards including a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross. On June 30, 1973 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Sue Ware in Round Rock. Darrell was an electrician for TU Electric for 14 years before retiring as a Water Treatment Specialist for the City of Waco after 13 years. He was a member of the Timbercrest Church of Christ in Bellmead. He enjoyed going to the gun range, had a great sense of humor, and a strong love for animals. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Campbell; and his beloved dog, Darby. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Carol Campbell of Ross; a son, Colin Campbell and wife Brittney of Claremore, Oklahoma; three daughters, Winnie Morrisroe of Bon Secor, Alabama, Kathleen Hill and husband Kirk of Hutto and Crystal "Sunny" Johnson and husband John of Waco; two sisters, Doris Shedd of Aransas Pass and Brenda Shedd and husband Randall of Sinton; a sister-in-law, Connie Campbell of Aransas Pass; grandchildren, Coby Campbell, Matt Hooten, Amanda Sanders, Jonathan Hill, Nate Hill, Allison Hill and Mabry Johnson; a great granddaughter, Makayla Sanders; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active Pallbearers are Matt Hooten, John Johnson, Kirk Hill, Randall Shedd, Charles Hunnicutt and Martin Knudsen. Honorary pallbearers are John Janeke and Jessie Shedd. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Darrell's love for animals, memorials may be made to the Waco Humane Society.
