Daniel Anton Foyt, Sr., age 79, of West, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. A private burial will be held at Assumption Cemetery in Austin. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Daniel was born April 10, 1936 in West, the son of Anton and Alice Victoria (Klodginski) Foyt. He attended school in West and was Valedictorian of the West High School class of 1954. He then attended and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science and Chemical Engineering Degree and played the saxophone in the Longhorn Band. On August 31, 1957, Daniel was united in marriage to Jane Louise Almquist in West. She preceded him in death on December 12, 1979. He was a school teacher in Fort Worth at Tremble Tech High School for 15 years, retiring in May of 2010. Daniel ran several restaurants in the Dallas and Longview areas, including The Tiki Restaurant, Kentucky Fried Chicken and The Short Stop. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Daniel served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Restaurant Association for several years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, both in Longview and West. Daniel enjoyed puzzles and calling Bingo at the West Senior Center. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, but his greatest joy was helping them with their math homework. Survivors include three sons, Daniel Foyt, Jr. of Arlington, David Foyt and wife Anna of Austin, and Darren Foyt and wife Lesley of Cedar Park; a daughter, Kathy Guyton and husband Jim of Nederland, CO; a sister, Dorothy Harris and husband Leroy of Austin; nine grandchildren, Alicia, Casey, Daniel Austin, Andy, Lee Jay, Kellen, Sara, Nonie and Will; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Steve Otto, Kellen Foyt, Joseph Scalco, Tom Hester and Karl Hanson. Honorary pallbearers are Grandsons, Daniel Austin Foyt, Andrew Guyton and Will Foyt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Senior Center.
