Cyril C.W. Cernosek

Cyril "C.W." Cernosek, age 80, of West, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, March 16, 2011. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 3:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Cernosek was born February 3, 1931 in West, the son of John and Annie Mae (Karlik) Cernosek. He was a graduate of Aquilla High School. He served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. On May 28, 1952 he was united in marriage to Margaret "Margie" Pustejovsky in Abbott. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2010. C.W. worked for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for 33 years and as a sales agent and State Director for R.V.O.S. Local Lodge 78 for many years. He was a longtime and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member and held various offices with the St. Mary's Quarterback Club, West Athletic Booster Club, McLennan/Hill County Czech Heritage Society, Texas Czech Ancestors, Czech Education Foundation of Texas, West Fair and Rodeo Association, West Longhorn Club, Knights of Columbus Council 2305, Texas Teenage Baseball/Softball Association, and the Catholic Life Association, and K.J.T. #31 of West. C.W. has served his community in many other ways like being a City Councilman since 1989, being a Westfest Director since it started in 1976, being a very strong leader and supporter of the West Youth Baseball/Softball Association, Basketball Official for the S.B.O.A. Waco Chapter, coached Little League, coached basketball for St. Mary's School in West, and being very supportive of activities at West Rest Haven. C.W. is also preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cernosek. Survivors include three sons, C. W. "Butch" Cernosek Jr. and wife Sharon of Sachse, Richard Cernosek and Sandy Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, and Donald Cernosek and wife Paula of West; four daughters, Denise McGuire and husband Dean of Midlothian, Carol Bartosh and husband Tommy of Duncanville, Joanie Crain and husband David of Grabill, IN, and Julie Freeman and husband Richard of Dawson; three brothers, Johnny Cernosek and wife Jeannette of West, and Bill Cernosek and wife Edwina and Edward Cernosek, all of Garland; 19 grandchildren, Risha Beasley and husband Craig, Corby LaCroix and wife Cari, Miki Cernosek Land, Dr. T.J. Bartosh and wife Dr. Nicole, Clifford Bartosh and wife Michelle, Weston LaCroix, Marty Cernosek, Craig Bartosh and wife Melissa, Audra Lansdown and husband Trevor, Tammy Rios and husband Aaron, Christopher Cernosek, Leslie Cernosek, Molly Cernosek, Jade Crain, Lisa Cernosek, Grace Crain, Benjamin Freeman, Catherine Bartosh, and Joshua Freeman; 10 great grandchildren, Haley, Jacob, Trevor, Abby, Kate, Owen, Parker, Emma, Tatum, Jackson, and two more on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are his grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Activity Fund, the West Youth Baseball/Softball Association, or to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
