Cressie Girard, age 98, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 31, 2019 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. The family will receive visitors 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by reciting the rosary at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2020 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Cressie was born June 2, 1921 in Greensboro, North Carolina the daughter of Lon and Emily (Gattis) Maxwell. She was a 1939 graduate of Greensboro High School. On May 31, 1946 she was united in marriage to Henry Girard at Chanute Field in Illinois. Henry preceded her in death on June 19, 2016. Cressie was a homemaker and mother. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, Daughters of the American Revolution, the West Book Club, the West Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and the VFW Post #4819 Ladies Auxiliary. Cressie enjoyed playing bridge, was an avid reader and was known as a wonderful and talented seamstress. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Cressie is also preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Girard. Survivors include her children, Richard Girard and wife Paula of Sparta, TN, Doug Girard and wife Cindy of Kingston, NH, Barbara Nay and husband Robert of Bedford, VA and Jim Girard of West; a daughter-in-law, Gena Girard; grandchildren, Chuck Girard and wife Daisie, Melissa Butler and husband Jesse, Travis Girard, Emily Girard, Kyle Girard, Chelsea Girard, Ryan Girard, Zhanna Nay, Anya Kephart and husband Alex, and Lilya Cooke and husband Jesse, great grandchildren, Spencer, Aeris, Derrick, Kateleya and Neri; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Bob Nay, Ed Girard, Chuck Girard, John Herman, Jeff Girard and Gary Dunn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
