Cordelia Christine Hawkins Drews, age 83, passed away Monday afternoon, August 14, 2017 at her home in West. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Todd Pick officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Bold Springs Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cordelia was born November 26, 1933 in West, the son of Robert and Wilda (Simpson) Hawkins. She attended West schools and was a 1952 graduate of West High School. On November 26, 1953 she was united in marriage to Marvin Alex Drews in West. Marvin preceded her in death on June 18, 2014. Cordelia went on to receive her Diploma in Nursing from the Lillie Jolly School of Nursing (Houston) in 1958 and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University (Denton) in 1977. Although she provided bedside nursing for several years, her real love was occupational nursing. She was an occupational nurse for several corporate entities including Westinghouse (San Mateo, CA), JC Penney, Marriott and MBNA (all Dallas) before retiring in 1999. In 1999, Cordelia and Marvin moved back to West to retire to the town they loved so much. Cordelia was a very faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in West and the Kiwanis Club of West where she was president for the 2002-2003 year. She served, for many years, as a board member on the West Hospital Authority. Cordelia enjoyed traveling, gardening, shopping, knitting, baking and needlepoint. Cordelia is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert E. Lee "Dick" Hawkins. Survivors include her sons, Marvin A. "Mel" Drews Jr. and wife Vicki of Las Colinas and Robert "Eric" Drews and wife Barbie of Dallas; granddaughter, Samantha and her husband Roy Dale Effinger and grandson Alex; three step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Jeff Eberhart, Dan Lucy, Roy Dale Effinger, Alex Drews, Daniel Drews and Gary Lee Drews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of West, the West Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund or to the charity of your choice.
