Clyde Penney

July 30, 1935 — September 8, 2005

Clyde Preston Penney, age 70, of West, passed away late Thursday evening, September 8, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of West, with the Rev. John Crowder officiating. Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Penney was born on July 30, 1935 in Hill County, Texas, the son of Claud Yukon and Mary Jane (Gordon) Penney. He graduated from Whitney High School and then entered a trade school in Orange, Texas to study as a maintenance engineer. Clyde was an avid fan and supporter of the Baylor Bears girls basketball team and was honored and recognized for his enthusiasm as a "Baylor Alumni by Choice". In serving his country, he enlisted and served with the National Guard for eight years. On December 24, 1958, he married the love of his life, Reta Vondean McConathy. They have enjoyed forty-seven wonderful years together and loved to travel to the coast where he enjoyed fishing every year. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Owens Corning Fiberglass Plant in Waxahachie for several years until his retirement in 1990. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church in West. An infant son, Clyde Dwayne Penney and a brother Ross Penney, both precede him in death. Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Reta Vondean Penney of West; three daughters, Lavonne and Andy Blalock and their daughters, Anne, Rebecca and Mary Beth of Fair Oaks Ranch, Clycinda Penney and her daughter, Casey of West, and Cheryl and Michael Reed and their children, Caterina and Clyde Austin of Lakeway; four brothers, Robert Penney and Claud Penney Jr. of Whitney, Charles Penney of DeSoto and Randy Penney of Clifton; and several other relatives. Active pallbearers will be his nephews, Robbie Penney, David Penney, Charlie Penney, Marty Penney, Jeff Penney, Marc Penney, Donnie Penney, David Gant and Todd Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Rusty Penney, a missionary in Bolivia. Memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice of Waco.
