Clara Belle Price

Clara Belle Price, age 88, of West, formerly of San Antonio, passed away Thursday morning, September 28, 2006 at Providence Health Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with the Rev. Ann Hitt officiating. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Mission South Cemetery in San Antonio. Clara was born on September 11, 1918 in Kingsville, the daughter of George and Louisa Price. She graduated from Kingsville High School in 1935. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from A & I University in Kingsville where she also received several medals in track and field. While living in the Kingsville area, she did her part in the war by working the motor pool at Kingsville Naval Air Station filling all the vehicles for the sailors. In 1944, she moved to San Antonio and began her teaching career in the Edgewood School District where she taught Elementary School. She went on to receive her Masters Degree in Special Ed at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio and taught Special Ed at the North East Independent School District until her retirement in 1980. In all of her teaching career, Clara loved to shop at salvage and unclaimed freight areas to buy things for her students' use in development of motor skills. She often provided school supplies, shoes and clothing for her students. For over fifty years, she lived in the San Antonio area until she moved to West in 1995. Clara was a very generous and giving person and enjoyed spending time with and buying gifts for her nieces and nephews. Her parents, one brother, Tom Price, and sisters, Alma Gregory, Waldene Pursch and Beatrice "Bettye" Holzmann, all precede her in death. Survivors include one nephew, Ronald Holzmann and wife Bettye of Ross; great-niece, Karen Emery and husband Steve of Ross; great-nephew, Donald Holzmann of Ross; great-great nieces and nephew, Stephanie Sullins and husband Jason of Chalk Bluff and Mindy and Cody Emery of Ross. Memorials may be made to the West Ambulance Association.
