Christine Caroline Polansky, age 89, of West, passed away early Monday afternoon, January 2, 2012 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Polansky was born August 17, 1922 in West, the daughter of Adolph and Caroline (Kolar) Kocurek. She attended Snake Creek, Ross, and the Brooken schools. On November 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to John W. Polansky in Penelope. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1994. Having started their married life in West, they spent many years farming and raising livestock. Christine also worked for Plantation Foods, Village Bakery and as a Dietary Assistant for West Community Hospital for 16 years, before she retired in 1988. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of K.J.Z.T. Society #11 and S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #54. Christine enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and tending to her flowers and lawn. She was a great seamstress and enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and making detailed Christmas stockings, tree skirts and decorations using sequins. She made bread, strudels, kolaches, sausage rolls, cinnamon rolls, and buchtas. She also enjoyed canning, making sauerkraut, and chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles. Christine liked reading and doing word find puzzles. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and spending time with her family Christine is also preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, John Helona; two brothers, Jerry Kocurek and Albert Kocurek; and four sisters, Leona Smajstrla, Eleanor Grmela, Lillian Sellers and Ann Marie Kocurek. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ann Helona, Sharon Schroeder and husband David, and Gladys Hand and husband Jim, all of Elm Mott; two brothers, Edwin Kocurek and wife Patricia of Irving and Harry Kocurek of Edmond, Oklahoma; a sister, Edith Wagner of Wylie; brothers-in-law, George Grmela and wife Josie of Waxahachie, Jimmy Polansky and special friend, Doris of West, and Alphonse Polansky and wife Kaye of San Antonio; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Kolar of West; six grandchildren, Christopher Helona and wife Amy, Melanie Fuller and husband Kyle, Douglas Hand and wife Elizabeth, James Schroeder and fiance Margaret Kurzynski, Gregory Hand and Daniel Schroeder; seven great grandchildren, Kenedy, Cash and Josie Fuller, Jackson, Caden and Kaitlyn Helona, and Adalyn Hand; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Christopher Helona, Douglas Hand, Gregory Hand, James Schroeder, Daniel Schroeder and Kyle Fuller. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association, St. Mary's Catholic Church, or St. Mary's School Endowment fund.
