Christine (Macicek) Matus, age 100, passed away late Wednesday evening, October 5, 2016 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 at Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Christine was born December 30, 1915 in Hoen, the daughter of Henry and Emilie (Dvorsky) Macicek. She attended the old Cottonwood School and St. Joseph's School. On November 14, 1933 she was united in marriage to Henry Matus in West. Henry preceded her in death on December 23, 1991. Christine worked for Ray Marek Appliance & Electric Company, West Grocery and Kotch Funeral Home, all in West. She was the Secretary for the West Melodian's Polka Band. Christine was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #6, St. Anne's Altar Society and K.J.Z.T. Society No. 11. Christine especially loved to bake kolaches, bread and pies. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, playing Taroky and listening to polka music. Christine is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frank Macicek; and a sister, Elizabeth Hutyra. Survivors include a son, Harry Matus and wife Wilma of Ennis; grandchildren, Kyle Matus, Kelly Matus and Craig Johnson; a great granddaughter, Madeline Rose Tevnan; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Marvin Macicek, Albert Matus, Herman Matus, Robert Hutyra, Wilburn Matus and Robert J. Matus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund, St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or to the charity of your choice.
