Christine Grellhesl

Christine Adela (Svrcek) Grellhesl, age 82, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 4, 2013 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Christine was born March 20, 1931 in West, the daughter of Ladin and Adela (Marek) Svrcek. She attended schools in Cottonwood and West. On November 7, 1949 she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Grellhesl in West. Christine was a seamstress with Woods Manufacturing in Waco, and Lorch Manufacturing in West. She also worked for Ben Franklin in Waco. She designed and made wedding dresses for many years. She also cooked at many weddings, funerals, anniversaries, fundraisers and the West Senior Center. Christine was a devoted Catholic and loved to pray the rosary. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 and SPJST Lodge #6. Christine loved her granddaughters and great grandchildren, reading, flower gardening, quilting and crocheting. She loved to make quilts, baby blankets, booties and doilies, giving them away to many charities and fundraisers. Christine is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Ernest Svrcek. Survivors include her beloved husband of 63 years, William "Bill" Grellhesl of West; two sons, Richard Grellhesl and wife Helen of Waco and Johnny Grellhesl and wife Debbie of West; a daughter, Suzanne Holt and husband Philip of West; two sisters, Martha Prasifka of West, and Mary Ann Hlavenka and husband Joe of Allen; a sister-in-law, Shirley Svrcek of Robinson; five grandchildren: Dr. Dana Grellhesl and fianc Dr. Bobby Nix, Melanie Grellhesl and fianc Neal Ewald, Rachel Haferkamp and husband Nick, Kristel Louis and husband Adam, and Heather LeAnn Holt; three great grandchildren, Isabelle, Samuel, and one on the way, Benjamin; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Nick Haferkamp, Adam Louis, Neal Ewald, Mike Prasifka, Joey Hlavenka and Mark Hlavenka. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association, West Rest Haven Relief Fund, or to West Senior Center.
