Charlie M. Flaherty Jr., age 80, of Vaughan, passed away early Wednesday morning May 4, 2016 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with visitation to follow until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. Ouseph Thekkumthala as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Denver Crawley. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory Cemetery near Hillsboro. Charlie was born October 19, 1935 in Massey, the son of Jessie (Machac) and Charlie Flaherty Sr. He attended school in Bynum. On December 21, 1962 he was united in marriage to Cara Marie Braden in Hudsbed County. Cara preceded him in death on June 29, 1999. Charlie worked as a pipe finisher for Certain-Teed in Hillsboro for over 30 years before his retirement. He then worked for Vesuvius for several years. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Charlie was also a member of the Elm Mott Riding Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and taking care of his cows. Charlie is also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alphonse Flaherty; and three sisters, Elizabeth Kunkel, Angeline Flaherty and Catherine Bajer. Survivors include his sons, Clayton Flaherty and wife Cindy of Ft. Worth, and Steven Flaherty and Milton Flaherty, both of Vaughan; a sister, Willie Mae Uptmor; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are L.J. Jones, Ronnie Horn, Mark Cox, David Girard, Brandon Sulak, Bradley Sulak and Paul Uptmor. Honorary pallbearers are Leon Uptmor, Billy Kunkel and Kenny Kunkel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vaughan Baptist Church.
