Charlie Martin Kubacak, age 94, of West, passed away early Monday afternoon, October 21, 2024 at West Rest Haven in West.
A rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrants, assisted by Deacon Ronnie Sykora. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard.
Charlie, born on November 4, 1929, in West, Texas, was a cherished member of his community. The son of Frank and Mary (Smajstrla) Kubacak, he attended St. Mary's School and graduated from West High School before earning an associate degree in bookkeeping from 4-C College. On April 7, 1956, he married Rose Marak in West. A proud veteran, Charlie served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a former member of the KC Choir. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2305, 4th Degree Msgr. George Doskocil Assembly #2391, KJT Society #31, the Morning Coffee Group at Nors Bakery and Pizza House, and the West Independent School District Board of Trustees. Professionally, Charlie managed the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Waco for two decades and had previously worked at A&P Grocery Store in West, Bellmead and Waco. He had a love for puzzle books, Czech music, watching EWTN, and family traditions, especially baking buchtas with Rose. An avid sports fan, he supported the West Trojans, Baylor Bears, Henderson State Reddies, and attended all his children's and grandchildren's events. He treasured family time, particularly during holidays, leaving a lasting legacy of love and service.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jill Suggs; brothers, Raymond, Alphonse, and George Kubacak; and sisters, Irene Devers and Barbara Recek.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Rose Kubacak of West; his children, Charles Kubacak and wife Cristy of Dallas, Laurie Morrison and husband Mike of West, and Jeff Kubacak and wife Angela of Kerrville; a son-in-law, Pat Cammack of West; his grandchildren, Trey Kubacak and wife Alex, Kathryn Poston and husband Aaron, Michael Morrison and wife Traci, Caitlin Eaves and husband Jonathan, Taylor Kubacak, Corbin Suggs, and Carigan Suggs; his great grandchildren, Charlie, Max, Kennedy, Blake, Ellie, Jack, Knox, and Miller; a sister, Lucille Uptmore; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Trey Kubacak, Michael Morrison, Garrett Uptmore, Corbin Suggs, Jonathan Eaves, and Aaron Poston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Ambulance Volunteer Association.
