Charlie "Buzzard" Karlik, age 46, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008 in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, by Janice Kaluza. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Charlie was born January 25, 1962 in Waco, the son of Frank and Mary (Giesen) Karlik, Jr. He attended St. Mary's School and West High School. Charlie was a self employed carpenter and previously worked for Bush Construction, Mazanec Construction, Dan Pokluda Construction and General Tire & Rubber Company. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305. Charlie enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, playing pool, and cooking. He especially enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews and had a special nickname for each of them. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Karlik, Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Jesse "Tootie" Karlik; his mother, Mary Karlik; two brothers, Frankie Karlik, III and Michael Haddix, all of West; three sisters, JoAnn Strand and husband Buddy of Belton, Mary Beth Dulock and husband Jimmy of Tours, and Vickey Craig of West; several nieces and nephews including Bracy "Pea Pie" Craig; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Bill Hutyra, Mike Hutyra, Jimbo McCoy, Kurt Haddix, Bobby Craig, Randy Horton, Johnny Ash, Joey Ash, Dan Pokluda, Britt Craig, Bradley Dulock, and Andrew Dulock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an education fund for his daughter Jesse or to the family to help with funeral expenses. Accounts have been established at State National Bank in West.
