Charlie Ferguson, age 76, of West, passed away early Monday morning, March 2, 2015 at his residence. A rosary will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, followed by visitation until 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrants. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery. Charlie was born October 4, 1938 in West, the son of George E. and Sophie (Koval) Ferguson. He attended schools in West. Charlie was the groundskeeper and maintenance manager for St. Mary's School and St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West for 45 years until he retired in 2015. He received the Lumen Gentium Award for his years of service to his church and community from the Austin Diocese in 2007. He previously worked for the West Cotton Gin and Fleetwood Mobile Homes. He was very faithful at his job and loved those he worked with. Charlie was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the K.J.T. Society #31. He dearly loved his mother and took great pride in taking care of her until she passed away and visiting her grave every day since. Charlie enjoyed playing the accordion, visiting with friends at Exxon Tiger Stop, going out to eat, going to Praha every year with Father Ed, riding on the lawn mower, and especially visiting with the children and St. Mary's School where he was known as "Mr. Charlie." Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Ferguson; and a sister, Evelyn Janek. Survivors include a sister, Lucille Cervenka and her husband Bob; nephews and nieces, Bob Cervenka Jr. , Charles Janek and wife Susan, Linda Metcalf and husband Roger, Mary Francis Karlik and husband Carlton, Carolyn DeVere and husband Bob, and Monica Wright and husband Danny; great nephews and nieces, Roger and Ryan Metcalf, Jeffery Karlik and wife Laura, Allison DeVere, Marcus DeVere and wife Ellen, Kelli Fishbaugh and husband Nick and Natalie Farst and husband Travis; great great nephews and nieces, Ryan, Mallory and Ellison Karlik; his present and former co-workers; many many friends, including Phillis and Kevin Chupik and their children, Tiger and Brittany and Bunny and Chuck Felderhoff; and several other relatives. Active pallbearers are Rev.Ed Karasek,Chuck Felderhoff, Tiger Chupik, Michael Kostecka, Alvin "Bud" Pavlicek, Tommy Girard, Freddie Kaluza,and Joe Pustejovsky. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Janek, Bob Cervenka Jr., and Tiger Stop Friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund, Bold Springs Cemetery Association or St. Mary's Church Building Fund.
