Charlie Bernard Brown, age 71, of West, passed away late Thursday afternoon, January 31, 2008 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Bob Martin officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Brown was born on August 7, 1936 in West, the son of Andrew and Emma (Winkle) Brown. He attended schools in Tokio and West before graduating from West High in 1955. On March 30, 1957, he was united in marriage to Wanda Faye Lisby in Ft. Worth. He worked for Jupe Mills and West Feed Mills for 38 years until he retired in 2000. Charlie and his family also delivered newspapers for the Waco Tribune for over 20 years. He enjoyed watching football, fishing, working jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and he especially loved spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of West Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jamie Chudej who passed away Feb. 21, 1997; and a sister, Kay Hazlewood who passed away Jan. 12, 2008. Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Wanda Brown of West; two sons, Charlie D. Brown of Ft. Worth and Roger G. Brown and wife Michelda of Mexia; one daughter, Brenda Butcher and husband Curtis of Aquilla; one sister, Jean Barefield and husband Lionel of Waco; six grandchildren, Natasha, Taylor, Lacie, Alaina, Kamrye, and James Isaac; one great grandson, Caleb; one great granddaughter, Jillian; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Phillip Owen, Stephen Miller, Michael Hazlewood, David Owen, Larry Sonnenberg, and Brandon Reese. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the West Church of Christ.
