Charles J. Moses, Jr., age 75, of Mansfield, formerly of West, passed away early Thursday morning, March 12, 2020, at his residence after his battle with cancer. Private graveside services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 in Waco. A Celebration of Life event will be organized in the very near future for family, friends and colleagues. Charles was born December 20, 1944, in Waco, the only son of Charles James Moses and Evelyn (Adams) Moses Moon. Charles, known to all in West as Jimmy, graduated from West High School in West, Texas, in 1962. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin and later the University of Texas at Arlington. Charles began his career in manufacturing that would span more than a half century in 1967 with LeTourneau Technologies in Longview. In 1969, he moved to the DFW area, taking a position with Standard Manufacturing, in Arlington. In 1972, he joined Oil States Rubber Company, also in Arlington, where he would remain until retiring 47 years later. During his tenure with Oil States (later to become Oil States Industries, Inc.), Charles led the company’s development initiatives of many new products, most notably the company’s entrance into the deepwater oil and gas market when OSI began manufacturing the Drilling Riser FlexJoint®. Under Charles’ leadership, the company’s engineering expertise and product innovation grew significantly. He led the acquisition and integration of Hunting Oilfield Services and Klaper Limited, establishing OSI’s operations in the UK and subsea repair business in Singapore; the acquisition of Subsea Ventures (the basis for OSI Houston today); the integration of Skagit SMATCO together with the acquisition of AHSI to form OSI Houma, and launched Oil States’ operations in Brazil. Over the years, Charles served as General Manager (Special Products Division), Vice President (Engineered & Industrial Products Group), Senior Vice President, and then eventually serving as President of Oil States Industries, Inc. Charles was an avid reader. Whenever he had downtime, you were going to find him with a book in his hands. He loved cars, fishing, and traveling, and he also loved sharing those hobbies with all his friends and family. As he entered retirement, he particularly enjoyed restoring his 1968 Camaro with his grandson, Chris. Charles' favorite destination was Akumal, Mexico, to drink beer at the Lol Ha Restaurant bar while watching and listening to the sounds of the ocean. He also loved spending time with friends and colleagues after work at Cha Cha's Restaurant in Mansfield. Some of the most special family memories were made at Charles's home each Christmas. All of his children, their spouses, his grandchildren, and their pets would congregate at his home to eat the meal he prepared then later gather around the tree to open gifts and pop the Christmas poppers he put in everyone’s stockings, with everyone having to read out loud the jokes and sayings that were inside. He was definitely a man of tradition, either continuing on those established by his mother and grandmothers or those he established while working at Oil States. And while things sometimes have to change, he could always be counted on to lead us on to the next thing while still honoring what had to be left behind. Charles is preceded in death by his father, Charles James Moses, who was killed in action during World War II; his mother, Evelyn (Adams) Moon; and his stepfather, David Edward Moon. Survivors include his beloved children, Stephanie Renee Moses of Frisco, Philip Scott Moses and wife Rene’ of Southlake, and James Kyle Moses and wife Ali of Burleson; a sister, Lindsay (Moon) Pierce and husband Bill of Dallas; two grandsons, Christopher Moses and Stephen Moses; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless family friends and associates from Oil States Industries. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the 447th Bomb Group Association, or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
