Cecil A. Atkins, age 78, of West, passed away early Thursday afternoon, March 14, 2013 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, followed by visitation until 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki and Rev. Boniface Onjefu as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Atkins was born February 7, 1935 in San Saba, the son of Cleo and Jewel (Smith) Atkins. He attended schools in Waco. On August 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Agnes Ann Mynar in West. Cecil served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked in the Heating and Air Conditioning business for over 40 years until he retired from A&H Refrigeration, the business he started with his son, Rickey and his nephew, Raymond Joe Hromadka Jr. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption and a dedicated servant of the Lord. Cecil enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching all sporting events, playing cards and dominos with his brothers-in-law and watching EWTN. He had a particular fondness for animals, especially dogs, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Cecil was a loving and dedicated husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend and will be truly missed. He never missed one of his family member's athletic events or special days and was so proud of them all. He was known for always putting others first, loved people and never met a stranger. Cecil is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dollie Rogers. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Agnes Atkins of West; two sons, Robert Atkins and wife Jacque and Rickey Atkins and wife Denise; two daughters, Mary O'Brien and husband Eugene and Linda Floyd and husband Greg; grandchildren, Jennifer Tighe and husband Kris, Shannon Brockman and husband Luke, Erin O'Brien, Kendall Nobles and husband Danny, Lauren Vorderkunz and husband John, Colton Atkins, Kristin Floyd, Megan O'Brien and Kyle Floyd; great grandchildren, Chloe Dodd, Ryan Jo Tighe, Mary Jane Vorderkunz, Brevyn Brockman and Kori Tighe; a brother-in-law, Dewey Rogers and wife Helen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Colton Atkins, Kyle Floyd, Kris Tighe, Danny Nobles, John Vorderkunz, Luke Brockman, Raymond Joe Hromadka Jr., and Rodger Chase. Honorary pallbearers are John Mynar, Ronnie Cervenka, Patrick Mynar, David Mynar and Joe Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clerical Endowment Fund, the Rev. Anthony Odiong Education Fund, the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice. Contributions can be sent to Aderhold Funeral Home, P. O. Box 423, West, TX 76691 with check made out to charity.
