Billy Ray Owens, age 74, of Denison, formerly of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 23, 2017 at Beacon Hill Nursing Home in Denison. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Bold Springs Cemetery near West, with Rev. Todd Ewing officiating. Billy was born June 13, 1942 in West, the son of Alton and Vera (Diamond) Owens. He attended schools in West prior to serving his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era. After receiving his discharge, Billy earned degrees in Drafting and Machine Shop from Grayson County College. On April 8, 1965 he was united in marriage to Minnie Barron. Minnie preceded him in death on February 24, 2009. Billy worked for Johnson and Johnson for over 15 years before retiring in 2003. He enjoyed gardening, watching movies on television and was a very avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Billy is also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alton James Owens; and sisters, Nellie Simecek and Sharon Rea. Survivors include his children, James Owens and wife Donna of Denison, Teresa McFadden and husband Clifton of Eielson AFB, Alaska and Michael Owens and wife Michelle of Sherman; a brother, Ronnie Owens; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
