Billy L. Poteet

Billy L. Poteet, age 71 of Aquilla, passed away Saturday July 30, 2005 in a Waco nursing home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Moran officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery near Aquilla. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Billy was born on May 21, 1934, the son of Chesley L. and Naomi Poteet. He served his country in the United States Army. On November 23, 1957 he married Mary "Lucy" Black. She preceded him in death on December 29. 2002. He was a mechanic for General Tire and Rubber Company before retiring in 1987. He also worked for Lux Packaging for eight years. Billy was a member of the Aquilla Volunteer Fire Department where he served as fire chief from 1970 until 2002. He also served on the Aquilla water board and was a member of the UPW Union. Billy raced stock cars at the HOT Speedway as well as around the State of Texas. A major part of his life was devoted to his sons racing and building cars, the famous "Poteet Yellow." He also loved Friday night six-man football and was a community-oriented person. He was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church. His parents; his son, Charles Poteet, and an infant daughter, Carolyn Poteet, also precede him in death. Survivors include three sons, Chesley Poteet and wife Juanita of Ross, Carl Poteet and wife Rita of West, and Curtis Poteet and wife Jerrilyn of Lorena; his brother, Aaron Dwayne Poteet and wife Frances of Aquilla; two sisters, Joy Smith and husband Tom of Commerce and Carol Ludwig and husband Sonny of Mt. Calm; nine grandchildren, Ryan Poteet and Callie Grochoske, Lauren Wolf and husband Lucas, Aaron Poteet, Caitlin Poteet, Andrea Poteet, Melissa Poteet, Amanda Byrd and husband Aaron, Amy Poteet, and Alicia Poteet; three great-grandchildren, Allison Wolf, Clayton Wolf, and Gavin Poteet; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers are Chesley Poteet, Carl Poteet, Curtis Poteet, Ryan Poteet, Aaron Poteet, Lucas Wolf, and Aaron Byrd. Memorials may be made to Aquilla Fire Dept. or Lebanon United Methodist Church.
