Billy Gene Fitzhugh, age 85, of Ross, passed away late Friday, June 22, 2018 at Senior Care in Hewitt. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Billy Gene was born June 7, 1933 in Riesel, the son of William "Pat" and Flora Mae (Breassler) Fitzhugh. He attended the old Waco Tech High School where he was the first quarterback when the school started it's football program. He served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. On December 7, 1954 he was united in marriage to Helen Toten in Waco. Helen preceded him in death in July of 1997. Billy Gene worked for Oncor Electric Company for almost 40 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #121 in Elm Mott. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball, working and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers. Billy Gene was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Franklin Fitzhugh; and a sister, Rose Fitzhugh. Survivors include his sons, Michael Fitzhugh of Ross and Mark Fitzhugh of Waco; a grandson, Zach Fitzhugh and wife Kassie; great grandsons, Bentley and Jase; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
