Bill Smith

William Hugh "Bill" Smith, age 90, of West, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2024 at his residence.


Graveside Service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Bold Springs Cemetery near West, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. Bill will Lie-In-State from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home.


Bill was born July 11, 1933 in West, the son of Percy and Eunice Muriel (Smith) Smith. He was a 1951 graduate of West High School. On April 23, 1979 he was united in marriage to Sieglinde Schoen in Hurst. The highlight of Bill and Sieglinde's marriage was the discovery of her connection to Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. Sieglinde was a child model of Sister Hummel's artwork. They opened the Hummel museum in New Braunfels and traveled the world displaying the art. Sieglinde preceded him in death on May 24, 2020. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church of West as well as the New Braunfels Lions Club. He worked for Howell Instruments as an Engineer and in sales for over 20 years. Bill enjoyed golfing, traveling, was an electronic wizard, and loved spending time with family and friends. He could get along with anyone and everyone and never met a stranger.


Bill is also preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Peggy Kruse; and an infant brother, Charles Edward Smith.


Survivors include his daughter, Karie Brothers and husband Jim of New Port Richey, FL; sister, Mary Beth Bailey of Augusta, GA; brother, Jerry Smith and wife Nancy of Waco; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
