Bill O'Neal, age 89, of Gholson, passed away Thursday evening, July 8, 2021 at Brookdale Lake Brazos Assisted Living Community in Waco. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson. A luncheon will be held 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Bill was born March 17, 1932 in Monrovia, California the son of Virgil O'Neal and Gertrude Mantooth. He graduated from high school in Oklahoma. In 1963, he was united in marriage to Rachel Stone. She preceded him in death on September 20, 1991. Then on October 24, 1992, he was united in marriage to Lou Crow in Gholson. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army and Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a long-time and faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also a member of and served as Exalted Ruler of Elk's Lodge #166 in Waco. Bill worked in maintenance for Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco where he met Lou. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing the slot machines at Winstar, cooking, and helping children, especially at the church. He had a great sense of humor and was known as a fun-loving husband and father. Bill is also preceded in death by his parents and several siblings. Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Lou O'Neal of Gholson; a step-daughter, Dona Myers of Waco; a brother, Bobby O'Neal and wife Cleo; nephews, Norman O'Neal, Robert Wayne Safley, and Jack Stone; nieces, Debra Kress and Brenda Young; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice in Waco.
