William “Bill” Frank Hannes, 63, formerly of West, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Providence Hospice Place in Waco.

Bill was born on May 7, 1959, to Clarence and Lillian “Tootsie” (Lucien) Hannes. Growing up in West, when not being harassed by his four sisters, you would find Bill pitching for the baseball team, quarterbacking the football team, getting bucked off bulls and wrecking race cars. According to Bill, he was good at all of them. When he wasn’t dominating the athletic field, he was falling in love with his wife Pam, the love of his life who he met his sophomore year of high school and never let leave his side. After high school, Bill and Pam moved to College Station where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M, a master’s degree in 42 from the Dixie Chicken and a PHD in love from Pam. After graduation, Bill went to work for Superior Oil, followed by Mobil Oil for 18 years. He joined Pioneer Natural Resources in 1997 and was with them until his retirement in 2020. Bill never met a person he didn’t like and always made sure everyone around him was being taken care of. His passion for any and all things Texas A&M and the Dallas Cowboys was unmatched. If you needed to find Bill, don’t call his phone, you could find him at an A&M sporting event, down in his bar playing Willie Nelson for all of the neighborhood to hear, at the ranch wrecking everything he drove, or being Big Daddy to one of his five grandkids. He was loved by all and will be missed dearly. Heaven got a good one last Thursday and for the rest of us down here, “It’s All Good”.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Hannes and a brother-in-law, Sonny Lassiter.
