Bettye Holzmann

Bettye Lee Holzmann, age 85, of Ross, passed away early Monday morning, May 1, 2023 at her residence.


Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in West, with Rev. John Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel.


Bettye was born October 9, 1937 in Temple, the daughter of Lanham and Mary (Vidler) Norris. She was a 1956 graduate of Burbank High School in San Antonio. On July 4, 1959 she was united in marriage to Ronald R. B. Holzmann in San Antonio. Ron preceded her in death on January 28, 2010. Bettye was a dedicated and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of West. She was also a charter member of the West Volunteer Ambulance Association where she taught Emergency Medical Training and was a very dedicated volunteer responding to many calls in the West and surrounding areas. Bettye was on the original board of directors for Westfest and helped to organize their first aid department. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for many years. Bettye worked for Hillcrest Surgical Center in Waco, for Dr. Block, a cardiologist in San Antonio, and for Family Practice in Waco where she was instrumental in setting up many of their Clinics in the area. She and Ron moved to West in 1959 and she worked for the Hillsboro Clinic where she also taught Licensed Vocational Nursing. Bettye then worked for West Community Hospital as a Registered Nurse, Director of Nursing, taught Lamaze classes, and was instrumental in starting the Licensed Vocational Nursing Classes. She ended her career in nursing with the DePaul Center in Waco. Bettye enjoyed traveling, playing the slots on occasion in Las Vegas and Winstar, listening to music by Alan Jackson and Neal McCoy, playing bingo, doing arts and crafts, painting, helping people, taking care of all her animals, and volunteering for West Rest Haven. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Bettye is also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Neal Norris; sisters, Joyce Norris, Patsy Helms, and Barbara Arnold; and a brother-in-law, Winston D. Helms.


Survivors include her children, Karen Emery and husband Steve of Ross and Donald Holzmann and wife Joy of Keller; three grandchildren, Stephanie Sullins and husband Jason, Mindy Emery, and Cody Emery; three great grandchildren, Connor, Aydin, and Easton; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are Mike Emery, Emanuel Mitchell, Bobby Norris, Taylor Norris, Jeff Arnold, Dwain Deiterman, David Maler, Kevin Maler and Darrell Picha.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association, First United Methodist Church of West, or the Alzheimer's Association.
