Betty Loraine (Buzbee) York, age 72, of Gholson, passed away late Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2017 at her daughter's residence in Chalk Bluff. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Gholson, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. Betty was born October 8, 1945 in Marlin, the daughter of Otis and Ann (Matthews) Buzbee. She graduated from China Spring High School in 1966. Betty attended McLennan Community College and received a degree as a Registered Nurse in 1979. She then attended Texas State University receiving her Business Administration degree before receiving a Masters in Health Service Management from Mary Hardin Baylor. On September 29, 1962 she was united in marriage to Albert L. York in Gholson. Albert preceded her in death on December 19, 2010. Betty was a hospital administrator working for several area hospitals including West Community Hospital and Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco for over 30 years before retiring in 2009. She also was a nursing instructor at McLennan Community College for several years. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gholson. She also was a member of West Kiwanis Club and Homespun Quilters Guild. Betty enjoyed quilting, oil painting, yard work, and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her family. Betty is also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Bonita Lynn York; brothers, Gus, Odell, Roy Lee, and James "J.W." Buzbee; a sister, Lessie Green; a son-in-law, Eddie Langston; and brothers-in-law, Lonnie York and John Bays. Survivors include her children, Robyn Barnes and husband Corky of Chalk Bluff, Allan York and wife Julia of Waco, Jeffrey York of Gholson and Aaron York Langston of Corsicana/Gholson; a foster daughter, Tammy Stuart and husband Leonard of Valley Mills; a sister, Sue Ayers and husband Donald; sister of the heart, Joyce Overall; sisters-in-law, Paula York, Betty Atkins and husband Lee, Mildred Richardson and husband Odis and Bertha Bays; canine companions, Sophie and Muffy; 18 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gholson.
