Betty Chudej

November 27, 1941 — July 29, 2005

Betty Jean Chudej, age 63, of West, passed away Friday, July 29, 2005 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:45 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Betty was born November 27, 1941 in West, the daughter of Ernest and Marie (Zahirniak) Tobola, Sr. She attended West schools and graduated from West High School in 1959. Betty married Bernard Chudej on December 30, 1961 in West. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1995. She worked as a waitress for Friendship Caf from 1975 to 1981. She then became the Deli Manager at Czech Stop for 20 years before retiring in 2003. Betty was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption and a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No 54. She enjoyed listening to czech music, being outdoors, going to the lake, and being with her many friends. Betty especially loved her grandchildren and will be remembered as a wonderful grandmother. Survivors include three sons, Douglas Chudej and wife Amanda of Montague, Kenny Chudej and wife Janet, and David Chudej and wife Delayne, all of West; a daughter, Tammy Soukup and husband Ernie of West; two brothers, Ernest Tobola Jr. and Harry Lee Tobola, of West; two sisters, Patsy Jones of West and Cathy Lozano of Ft. Worth; five grandchildren, Cassie Toon, Amber Simmons, Ashley Chudej, Clint Chudej, and Kali Chudej; one great-granddaughter, Mckenzie Toon; a special friend, Jaydean Willis; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Jeff Tobola, Bernard Gerik, Troy Gerik, Darryl Barton, Clint Chudej, and Nat Simmons. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center or the First Baptist Church of West Building Fund.
