Bertha (McCartney) Wright, age 81, of Gholson, passed away late Saturday evening, November 23, 2019 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waco. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Bertha was born September 20, 1938 in Gholson, the daughter of Lucille (Bettinger) and the late Frank McCartney. She attended Gholson School and West High School. On June 26, 1980 she was united in marriage to Ernest Wright in Mexia. Bertha was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson. She was a laundry supervisor for the Mexia State School for 19 years before retiring in 1998. Bertha enjoyed taking gambling trips, dealing in antiques and sewing. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and attending all their games and school activities. Her presence was loving, understanding and always funny. We will sure miss our "Berfie". Survivors include her beloved husband of 39 years, Ernest Wright of Gholson; her mother, Lucille McCartney of West; her children, Debby Galloway and husband Larry of Gholson, Ronny Guinn and wife Terry of Gholson, Robby Guinn and wife Toye of West, Elaine Rieves and husband Ken of Streetman, Carolyn Seale and partner Anne Birmingham of Teague, Latresa Lane and husband Harvey of Mexia, Jeff Wright and wife Betsy of Fairfield and Dwayne Wright and wife Angie of Shepherd; brothers, Jerry McCartney and wife Mary and Larry Joe McCartney and wife Janet; a sister, Barbara Breen; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
