Bernice (Kolar) Hornak, age 71, of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 6, 2016 at her residence. A rosary will be recited 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Bernice was born August 9, 1944 in West, the daughter of Edward R. and Frances (Karlik) Kolar. She attended St. Mary's School and was a 1964 graduate of West High School. On June 1, 1968 she was united in marriage to Albert J. Hornak in West. Bernice worked in the accounting department of West Bank and Trust, now PointWest Bank for over 42 years. Prior to that she worked for Citizens Bank in Waco. Bernice was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She began her love of racing while watching Albert Jr. race and then became an avid NASCAR fan, especially cheering for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Bernice enjoyed camping, working at Westfest and going to the lake with her grandson, nieces and nephews. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward Kolar Jr. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Albert Hornak Sr. of West; a son, Albert John Hornak Jr and wife Belinda of Lorena; brothers, Louie Kolar and Ernest Kolar and wife Mary; a sister, Magdalen Kolar; a grandson, Garrett Brunson; nieces, Melinda Lucas and husband Josh and Catie Kolar; nephew, Ernie Joe Kolar and wife Emily; great nieces, Madison and Molly; great nephews, Joel and Samuel; and many other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Josh Lucas, Ernie Joe Kolar, Garrett Brunson, Billy Karlik, Grant Lankford and Justin Filer. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Hykel, Justin Griffin, Colton Dunlap, Tyler Merritt and Ray Furnace. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association or to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
