Bernard Leon Cervenka, age 83, of Houston, formerly of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 8, 2006 at Memorial Hermann Hospital Medical Center in Houston. A rosary will be recited 1:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:15 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Cervenka was born January 24, 1923 in Temple, the son of Leon and Minnie (Jerabek) Cervenka. He attended St. Mary's School and Elementary school in West and graduated from Abbott High School. He worked for Ebasco, Inc. of Houston for many years until his retirement. Bernard was an avid fan of classical westerns, comedies, and musicals. For many years he enjoyed attended the Tom Mix Festival in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was a Catholic. Bernard is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Georgia Cervenka. Survivors include one sister, Delores Cervenka of Houston; and many other relatives including, Dorothy Kral, Bobby Cervenka, Edward Lee Cervenka, Raymond Cervenka, Danny Martinets, Frankie Martinets, Darvin Martinets, Richard Vitek, Clara Carter, Evelyn Kun, and Dorothy Nichols. Pallbearers are Luke Holecek, Danny Urbanovsky, Freddie Gerik, Bobby Cervenka, Edward Lee Cervenka, and Charlie Marstaller. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center.
