Benjamin "Ben" Uptmor, age 77, of Tours, passed away late Monday evening, October 23, 2006 at his residence. A Rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Uptmor was born on October 18, 1929 in Tours, the son of Ben Andrew and Josephine Frances (Schroeder) Uptmor. He attended school in Tours and West High School. In serving his country, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a supervisor in the wiring department at Command Aire and which became Trane Inc. in Waco for over 35 years until his retirement in 1997. Ben also farmed and ranched for most of his life. He loved to fish, go dancing, and eat out on the weekends where he enjoyed visiting with all his friends. He was a lifetime member of St. Martin's Catholic Church. His parents; an infant sister, Rosalie Uptmor; and a brother-in-law, Bill Enlow; all preceded him in death. Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth Uptmor and wife Dorothy, and Gregory Uptmor, all of Tours; three sisters, Angeline Sottman and husband Kurt of New Braunfels, Marian Glass and husband J. T. of Austin, and Alma Enlow of Garland; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to St. Martin's Cemetery Association.
