Ben Roy Hutyra, age 80, of Elm Mott, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, January 12, 2011 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Hutyra was born July 29, 1930 in Tokio, the son of John V. and Sophie (Dobias) Hutyra. He attended Tokio and West schools and graduated from West High School in 1948. As a young man he worked for the Katy Railroad and helped operate the Tokio Grocery Store. He began a career with the 7-11 Corporation in 1953 working his way up from an assistant store manager to manager, then auditor, and supervisor of twelve stores in the Waco area. Ben and his son, Robert, purchased the Elm Mott Grocery Store in 1978 and he operated the store until his retirement in 2005. During his retirement, Ben Roy enjoyed caring for his ducks, geese, donkeys, cats and dogs and tending to his tomato plants and pecan trees. He was a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 66 in Elm Mott and Knights of Columbus in Bellmead. He also enjoyed working at Geneva Hall every Saturday night. Ben Roy is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond Hutyra and Ernest Hutyra; and two sisters, Norma Scott and Josephine Hutyra. Survivors include a son, Robert W. Hutyra and wife Susan of Elm Mott; two daughters, Juanita Bullock and husband Del of Ross and Kimberly Ferez and husband Nick of Clayton, NC; a brother, John Lee Hutyra; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Keith, Sara, Amy, Angela, James and Ben; four great grandchildren, Robyn, Alyson, Jacob and Andrea; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Amy Bullock Jost, Angela Bullock, Kelly Hutyra, Keith Hutyra, Sara Hutyra, James Ferez and Ben Ferez. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or St. Mary's C.C.E. Program.
