Ashton Kristine Marek, age 19, of West, passed away late Friday evening, March 9, 2007 near West, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Anthony Odiong as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Ashton was born on January 14, 1988 in Waco, the daughter of Michael and Deanna (Kutscherousky) Marek. She attended St. Mary's School in West and graduated with honors in 2002. While at St. Mary's she was a cheerleader and very active in all school functions. She graduated from West High School with honors in May of 2006. At West High she was a cheerleader, played volleyball, and basketball. Ashton was a member of the West Future Farmers of America, where she enjoyed showing her animals; Junior Historians; Key Club; Spanish Club; National Honor Society; and Who's Who Among American High School Students. Ashton loved shopping with her mother, spending time with her brother and cousins, and visiting her grandmother because she always looked forward to her poppy seed buchta. She enjoyed going to the beach, snow and water skiing, and hanging out with all her friends. Ashton was currently attending Texas A & M University where she was majoring in Community Health and was planning to become a doctor. Her love for people involved her in many community volunteer projects, including delivering Thanksgiving Baskets and volunteering at Providence Hospital. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Frank and Willie Mae Marek; maternal grandfather, A. J. Kutscherousky; and an aunt, Ann Kutscherousky. Survivors include her parents, Michael and Deanna Marek of West; a brother, Adam Marek of West; maternal grandmother, Bernice Kutscherousky of West; aunts and uncles, Tommy and Bernadette Kutscherousky, Annette Phipps, Mel and Rita Michael, Dennis and Jane Kutscherousky, Mark and Kathy Kutscherousky, Adrian Kutscherousky, Tim Kutscherousky, James and Denise Carlile, Bobby and Mary Piske, Tim and Caroline Sullins, Mike and Karen Schaeper, Gerald and Vicki Kutscherousky and Gary and Jeanette Marek; and numerous cousins and friends including, a special cousin and best friend, Lacey Kutscherousky. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Kutscherousky Jr., Trent Carlile, Shawn Rieger, Scott Rieger, Tyler Sullins, Jonathan Kutscherousky, Jeremy Kutscherousky, Cullen Kutscherousky, Chase Kutscherousky, Jordan Kutscherousky, Christopher Marek and Austin Piske. Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of 2006 and her friends at Texas A & M University. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ashton Marek Memorial Scholarship Fund, St. Mary's Parish Center, or to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
