A.P. Matus, Jr.

Adolph "A.P." Matus, Jr., age 74, of West, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 7, 2012 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. A memorial visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Mr. Matus was born October 30, 1937 in Limestone County, the son of Frances (Cvikel) and Adolph "A.P." Matus Sr. He attended schools in Tokio and graduated from West High School in 1957. He joined the United States Navy and served actively for four years. On July 29, 1961, he was united in marriage to Lillie Marie Chudej in West. He worked as a trucker for Central Freight Lines and First Fleet in Waco for over 40 years until his retirement in 2005. A.P. also worked for McLennan County Maintenance Department and as a bus driver for the West Independent School District. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He loved coaching baseball, basketball, and participating in all motocross activities with his sons. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. A.P. is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eric Matus; four sisters, Hattie Griffin, Louise Johnson, Frances Wills and Mary Joe Marek. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Lillie Matus of West; two sons, Chris Matus and fiance, Darby Roberts of Bryan and Jason Matus of West; two grandchildren, Branson and Hollie Matus; two sisters, Betty Pareya of West and Elizabeth Hejl of Ross; a brother-in-law, Raymond Chudej and wife Barbara of West; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption or the American Heart Association.
