Anton Tony Michalek

Anton "Tony" Michalek, age 64, of Penelope, passed away late Saturday night, January 3, 2009, at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nativity B.V.M. in Penelope, with Rev. B. George as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery near Penelope. Tony was born on August 10, 1944 in Granger, the son of Anton V. and Betty (Klepek) Michalek. He attended Granger schools and graduated from Granger High School in 1962 before attending Temple Junior College. Tony served his country with the United States Air Force. He worked for the VA Regional Center in Waco and worked for Binswanger Glass Company in Waco for 30 years before retiring as manager in 1990. Tony enjoyed bar-b-queing, working, and spending time with his family, especially his grandson. He was a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #54 in West, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Church of the Nativity B.V.M. in Penelope. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daniel Michalek. Survivors include two sons, Frank Michalek and fianc Michelle Whearley of Woodway and Dan Michalek and wife Britaney of Axtell; the mother of his children, Gerri Michalek Weber of Corsicana; one brother Raymond Michalek and wife Barbara of Leroy; one sister-in-law, Joy Michalek of Granger, one grandson, Corey Michalek of Axtell and one on the way; and several nephews, one niece, many other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are Robert Michalek, Tom Michalek, Dewayne Tobola, Bobby Tobola, Michael Tobola, and Edward Grmela. Honorary pallbearers are James Michalek, Steven Michalek, Norbert Blahuta, Rudy Grmela, and David Lednicky. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Penelope Volunteer Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
