Anne Mae Emery, age 78, of West, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 17, 2009 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at West Brethren Church, with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Anne was born September 28, 1930 in Abbott, the daughter of Henry J. and Bessie (Lastovica) Popp. She attended school in Abbott and graduated from Abbott High School in 1948. On May 24, 1953 she was united in marriage to John D. Emery in West. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1995. Anne was a pharmacy technician for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Waco for 17 years before retiring in 1994. Prior to that she worked for Connally Air Force Base in Waco, Rangaire in West, Manpower Temporary Services in Waco, and for the Brown School in Austin (a school for children with special needs). She was a faithful member of the West Brethren Church, where she was active in the Christian Sisters and sang in the church choir. Anne was also a very active member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54 in West, where she served as a secretary for over 26 years. She enjoyed taking pictures of Texas courthouses with her husband, watching her afternoon stories, traveling, casino weekends, and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her family and attending family gatherings. Her parents; three brothers, Henry John Popp Jr., Ernest Popp, and an infant; a brother-in-law, William Gipson; a nephew, Eric Jez; and two nieces, Ruthie Steiner and Kathy Popp also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Ralph Michael Emery of Lorena and longtime special friend, Ginger Turner of Mart and Charles Steve Emery and wife Karen of Ross; four sisters, Naomi Scott and husband Bill of West, Bess Jez and husband Jon of Temple, Linda Gardner and husband Spencer of Houston, and Lana Gipson of Redding, California; one brother, Danny Popp and wife Kay of Arlington; three grandchildren, Stephanie Sullins and husband Jason, Mindy Emery, and Cody Emery; a great grandson, Connor Sullins; three sisters-in-law, Helen Popp, Sylvia Popp, and Ruth Steiner and husband George; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to West Brethren Church.
