Anna Spicer

Anna Vera Uptmor Spicer, age 73, of West went to be with the Lord late Friday evening, November 25, 2005 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the West Brethren Church with Rev. Curtis Holland, Rev. Gordon Hejl, and Rev. Lawrence Junek officiating. Burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday at the funeral home. Anna was born on November 2, 1932 in Hill County, the daughter of John and Emily (Elles) Hegar. Anna attended school in Ross and graduated from West High School in 1951. She then attended Scott & White nursing school and graduated in 1954 as a registered nurse. She married Richard Uptmor on September 30, 1960 in West. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1982. She then married James Spicer on September 3, 1983 in Waco and he also preceded her in death on November 9, 1991. She worked at Providence Hospital for thirty years and taught nursing at McLennan Community College for many years. Anna also worked for Waco Bone and Joint Clinic for several years until her retirement in 1994. She loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, and camping. She was a member West Brethren Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Christian Sisters. Survivors include a son, Barry Uptmor of Waco; a daughter, Martha Ann Schoen and husband Johnny of Austin; a brother, Johnny Hegar of Norwalk CT; two sisters, Dorothy Kocian of Waco and Ruth Hodge of Conroe; four grandchildren, Shannon Uptmor, Cinnamon Uptmor, Rhianna Miller, and Nico Ramicone; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers will be Barry Uptmor, Bruce Byars, John Schoen, Mike Kocian, Mark Miller, and Randy Wimberly . Memorials may be made to the West Brethren Church, Hillcrest Community Hospice, or the Alzheimer's Association.
