Ann Slovak

Ann Slovak, age 67, of Elm Mott, passed away Monday evening, March 16, 2015 at her residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Boniface Onjefu and Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Ann was born July 17, 1947 in Waco, the daughter of Raymond T. and Bonnie Lee (Alexander) Thomas. She attended schools in Waco. On December 16, 1977 she was united in marriage to Ernest E. Slovak in Waco. Ann was a counselor for the Family Abuse Center in Waco. Prior to that she co-owned Ann & Barbara's Cafe in Ross, worked for Centurion Mobile Homes and the West Auction Barn Restaurant. Ann was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and watching her grandchildren play their many sports. She also had the biggest heart and always wanted to help others before herself. Ann is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beverly Johnson; a brother-in-law, Bob Johnson and a nephew, Raymond Johnson. Survivors include her beloved husband of 37 years, Ernest Slovak; daughters, Leann Mordecai and husband Micah of McGregor and Beverly Pilgrim and husband Craig of Elm Mott; a son, Russell Slovak and wife Lojuana of Grand Prairie; grandchildren, Destinee Terry and husband Travis, Taylor Mordecai, Tanner Mordecai, Leanna Pilgrim and Corey Slovak; a great grandson, Micah Liam Terry; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Tanner Mordecai, Corey Slovak, Anthony Jares, James Irwin, Justin Irwin and Nathan Kuehl. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West ACTS or St. Mary's School Endowment Fund. The family would like to give a special thanks to Traditions Hospice nurses, Tammy Barton, Kay O'Leary, Roshanda Dancer, and special childhood friends, Shirley Brunson and Shirley Dvorak.
