Angeline Sykora

Angeline "Mamo" (Macik) Sykora, age 90, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 5, 2013 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Msgr. Henry Petter, Rev. Ed Karasek, and Rev. Boniface Onjefu as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Sykora was born January 12, 1923 in West, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Krcma) Macik. She attended St. Mary's School in West and the old Brigman School near Penelope. On October 4, 1943 she was united in marriage to Henry C. Sykora in Penelope. Henry preceded her in death on February 8, 1971. Angeline was a homemaker and worked in the cafeteria at St. Mary's School and West Rest Haven before retiring in 1987. She was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and led many rosary services. Angeline was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, St. Anne's Altar Society, K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society #11, P.T.C. Choir, 50/50 Club and St. Mary's Catholic School Alumni Association. She enjoyed ministering to the sick, volunteering at West Rest Haven, quilting for all of her children and grandchildren, cooking, gardening, playing 42, watching EWTN and game shows, canning and was well known for her kolaches, pickles and noodles. She also attended all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sports activities. Angeline is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ernest Sykora; a daughter, Veronica Sykora; brothers, Louis Macik, Frank Macik, Albin Macik, Henry Macik and Stanley Macik; and sisters, Frances Macik and Lillian Dobecka. Survivors include sons, Tommy Sykora and wife Cyndi of Lorena and Sammy Sykora and wife Susan of West; daughters, Bernadine Irby and husband Roy of Waco, Theresa Plsek and husband Bob of Lacy Lakeview, Mary Barton and husband Mark of Spring, Betty Kostecka and husband Bobby of West, and Angie Hovde and husband Dennis of Lacy Lakeview; a daughter-in-law, Dolores Sykora of West; grandchildren, Dale Sykora and wife Lynette, Rodney Sykora and wife Dawn, Tonya Plsek, Rob Plsek and wife Amanda, Brent Sykora, Blake Sykora and wife Abbie, Shelley Sykora, Rachel Pickens, Emilie Sykora, Eric Kostecka, Sharon Buttry and husband Chris, Patrick Kostecka and wife Brittney, Vicki Stalnaker and husband Jon, Nicolas Hovde, and Christopher Hovde; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Dale Sykora, Rodney Sykora, Brent Sykora, Blake Sykora, Rob Plsek, and Eric Kostecka. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or to the charity of your choice.
