Alvin Joseph Laubert

Alvin Joseph "Ollie" Laubert, age 94, of West, passed away Sunday morning, October 16, 2022 at West Rest Haven in West.


A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.


Ollie was born December 18, 1927 in Lott, the son of Peter and Josephine (Niekamp) Laubert. He attended school in Tours. On October 25, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lillie Kocian in West. Ollie proudly served his country in the United States Navy on a tug boat during World War II. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Ollie was also a member of the SPJST Lodge #6 in Cottonwood, the West Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819, and the Knights of Columbus Council #2305 in West where he was recognized as the oldest living member in 2021. He worked for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for 31 years and also did some farming and carpentry work. Ollie enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, helping in the kitchen, barbecuing, and singing. He loved spending time with his family, especially the Sunday lunches with his children and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Woodworking was a favorite pastime, he made many domino tables for people in the surrounding areas and one even ended up at the Crawford White House gifted to then President George W. Bush by one of his neighbors.


Ollie is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence, Herman, Joe, and Edmund Laubert; sisters, Sister Ann Bernadette, Angeline Hinkelman, and Emma Brown; and a great grandson, Logan Kaluza.


Survivors include his beloved wife of 74 years, Lillie Laubert of West; his children, Joyce Schroeder and her husband Joe of West, Richard "Ollie" Laubert and his wife Deana of West, Barbara Wachsmann and her husband Joe of Chalk Bluff, and Diann Sulak and her husband Mike of Hillsboro; a brother, Ervin Laubert and wife Geraldine; a sister, Josephine King; his grandchildren, Troy and Cheryl Schroeder, Jeffrey and Liz Schroeder, Brian Laubert, Becky and Matt Kudelka, Alan Laubert, Leann and Nathan Kaluza, Mark and Carolyn Wachsmann, Lisa and Chris Spates, Misty and Anthony Avila, Kevin and Christina Sulak, and Brent and Brandi Sulak; his great grandchildren, Alexis Schroeder, Reid Schroeder, Lillian "Lilly" Schroeder, Isabelle Schroeder, Brayden Kudelka, Noah Kaluza, Oliver "Ollie" Kaluza, Audrey Kaluza, Andy Wachsmann, Emma Wachsmann, Kara Wachsmann, Jacob Spates, Eli Spates, Brandon Avila, Skylar Avila, Travis Sulak, Victoria Sulak, Brinley Sulak, Michaela Sulak, and Addalyn Sulak; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Active pallbearers are all of his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are all of his granddaughters.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association or charity of your choice.
