Alphons D. Urbanovsky, age 95, of Aquilla, passed away late Sunday night, November 26, 2017 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. Joe Keating as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Alphons was born August 1, 1922 in the Massey community near Abbott, the son of Vinc and Amalie (Ruzicka) Urbanovsky. He attended Brooken, St. Mary's and Abbott schools. Alphons served his country with the United States Army Air Force during World War II. On September 3, 1945 he was united in marriage to Betty Trlica in West. Betty preceded him in death on January 16, 2009. Alphons was a lifelong farmer and rancher before retiring in 1994. In the mid 1950's, Alphons was known to have invented the first air conditioned combine cab. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. He was also a member of the SPJST Lodge #66, KJT Society #107, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819, Texas Farm Bureau, Knights of Columbus Council #11230, American Legion # 479, and Aquilla Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and playing the accordion. Alphons is also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Matula; and a son-in-law, James Vick. Survivors include his sons, Richard Urbanovsky and wife Robin, Frank Urbanovsky and wife Jeanette and Ted Urbanovsky and wife Karen, all of Aquilla; his daughters, Edith Vick of Fredericksburg, VA, Mary Lou Smith and husband Charley of Corsicana, Joyce Stewart and husband Wayne of The United Arab Emirates and Helen Szabuniewicz and husband Jean-Michel of Weatherford; his sisters, Helen Lenart and Evelyn Freeburn; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Aaron Urbanovsky, James Vick, Andrew Urbanovsky, Chad Eikenhorst, and Bret Eikenhorst, Jody Harrison, Matthew Koronczok, Bill Appl, Juan Pedraza, Jimmy Patton, Tony Leopold, Dusty Payne and Chuck May. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott or the Aquilla Volunteer Fire Department.
